Murray Hill

Midtown on the East Side from 23rd Street to 42nd Street

A quieter residential area near the Midtown tunnel, Murray Hill is known for grand architecture comingling with high rise condos. Of the 100 townhouses listed in the 1892 Social Register, 60 are still standing. The former business corridors of Madison and Fifth avenues are being converted into upscale new apartments. The United Nations building complex stands on the east, along with the tramway to Roosevelt Island. The Morgan Library, a splendid Italian style palazzo, houses a dazzling collection including Dickens manuscripts, Renaissance drawings and three Gutenberg bibles.
